What is Shed Testing?

Shed testing is a non-invasive DNA testing method that uses a reptile’s naturally shed skin to analyze its genetics. Instead of taking blood or tissue samples, a laboratory extracts DNA from the cells left behind on the inside of the shed skin.

This has become an important tool for breeders, especially for species like Ball Pythons, because it can confirm genetic traits that cannot always be identified visually.
